Storage Facility
Collecting and cleaning the palm leaf sheath requires a sun drying and storage facility till production. We can let the sheath stored for 10 to 12 months in a specially designed storage room. Not only for raw materials but also sealed packed goods. We have the best storage facility. There we can easily store the products for at least 6 months.

Sheaths Cleaning in Rainy Seasons
Before production, we need to clean and dry areca palm leaf sheaths without disturbing the moisture content. But in the rainy season, sun drying may not be possible. In that case, we use a bio-gas dryer which is equally effective.

What does Fibre Constitute?
Areca palm leaf sheath consists of three elements: cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. The best composition of these three elements: is approx 57% cellulose 23% hemicellulose and 6% lignin.

Crystalline Substance Ratio and Microfibrillar Angle
The strength of a leaf sheath depends on the crystalline substance ratio and microfibrillar angle of cellulose.
The higher the crystallinity index, the higher the fibre strength. The lower the microfibril angle, the higher the mechanical strength. Usually, the crystallinity index and microfibrillar angle of the areca leaf sheath are 57% and 35% respectively.

Leaf Sheath Moisture Level
Comes from nature, areca naturally consists of hydrophilic( an OH group molecule). That is what attracts the water molecules in the air. When these molecules merge with the fibre molecules create the ideal moisture content. Normally, the moisture level of the areca palm leaf sheath comes to around 12%.

The usual length of the areca leaf sheath is approx 1.5m. The entire sheath consists of fibre whose length relies on the cut areca leaf during the takeout process.

The higher fibre length is directly proportional to the leaf sheath length. The diameter of the areca leaf sheath usually falls between 14 and 392 µm.

Individual and Combined Fibre Strength
The best fibre property is its capability to bear the tension. The individual fibre strength of areca leaves affects its combined fabric strength. It also depends on the fibre arrangement. Piled areca-leaf sheath fibre strength is 18.8 g/tex at 5 cm gauge length. On the other hand, individual fibre strength is 400 MPa.
